Mililani Pest Season: Why Central Oahu Homes See a Spring Surge in Ants, Centipedes & Termites

Published April 22, 2026Jason

If you live in Mililani Town, Mililani Mauka, Launani Valley, or anywhere along the Central Oahu plateau, you already know that pests don't really take a winter off in Hawaii. But every April, May, and June we watch the same phone calls roll in — ghost ants trailing across kitchen counters, Vietnamese centipedes turning up inside slippers, and clouds of Formosan subterranean termite swarmers orbiting the porch light on the first warm, humid night of the season.

Why Central Oahu Wakes Up All at Once

There's a reason for the timing. Central Oahu's elevation (Mililani sits around 500 feet) means overnight temperatures stay a few degrees cooler through the winter, which slows pest activity just enough to push egg-laying and foraging into the spring. Once daytime highs stay consistently above the mid-70s and the trade winds drop off — usually late March through May — the entire Mililani pest ecosystem wakes up at once.

The Three Biggest Spring Offenders

The three pests we field the most calls about in April and May are ants, centipedes, and termites. Ghost ants and big-headed ants build satellite colonies inside wall voids over the winter and then go looking for sugar and protein as soon as the weather warms — the kitchen is usually their first stop. Vietnamese centipedes overwinter under mulch, rock walls, and potted plants along Mililani's many greenbelts and come out hunting at night, which is why so many end up inside garages and laundry rooms. And Formosan termites time their reproductive swarms to the first few warm, humid evenings of May — attics and eaves in older Mililani Town homes are a prime target.

Why Acting Early Matters

The most important thing to know is this: by the time you see the pest, the colony has already been there for weeks or months. A single ghost ant trail means there's a nest within 20 feet of your kitchen. A single termite swarmer inside the house means there's very likely an established colony already in the structure. Acting early in the season — March and April — is dramatically more effective (and cheaper) than reacting once the infestation has taken hold.

What We Recommend for Mililani Homes

What we recommend for Mililani and Central Oahu homes heading into spring: a perimeter treatment to create a barrier around the foundation, targeted bait placements in kitchens and bathrooms, and a termite inspection of attic spaces, eaves, and any exposed wood. Our recurring monthly and bi-monthly plans are specifically designed to break the seasonal pest cycle before it builds.

Get Ahead of the Spring Surge

If you're in Mililani, Waipio, Pearl City, Wahiawa, or anywhere in Central Oahu and you've started noticing early-season activity, give us a call at 808-321-3282 or email terminatus@mail.com. Weekdays before 1 PM we can usually get out the same day — beating the spring rush is always easier than fighting through it.
